Interview Tips and Techniques
This article is going to be about a few key interview tips and techniques that will hopefully increase your performance and results in the real-life. These are some of the things that I have noticed about myself and other people throughout my experience as a computer science college student.
One of the most important things during the interview is the feeling of comfort. When one feels comfortable it automatically exudes confidence. I suggest that before attending the interview call up the place that you are going to attend and ask them about their dress code – meaning if they always wear suits, ties and dress shoes or jeans and sneakers. Different places have different rules and you definitely don’t want to look off or very different from everyone else when being interviewed.
When you find out about the dress code this is now a good time to pick your clothes that fit you well – once again it is important that you feel comfortable. It is even more important to wear shoes that are comfortable because they control your walk and your postures and if both of those look out of place then the interviewer will consciously or unconsciously notice that. This on the other hand will associate your name with a negative feeling rather than a positive one. However, if you pick clothes that look good on you, are appropriate for the place and also make you feel comfortable then you are in for a win. This will let you move comfortably and freely which will demonstrate confidence and associate your name with positive feelings.
One of the other things is to know clearly about your weaknesses and your strengths. Most don’t know about these because they never cared to look into themselves. It is a good time to do some soul-searching. Also please don’t try things like – “my weakness is that I love to work hard”. Don’t insult the interviewer’s intelligence because it is not that hard to spot those kinds of tricks if you even want to call them that. Be HONEST – If you have a weakness then talk about it. On the other hand if you have a strength then talk about it as well and don’t be scared, this is not the time to be humble. Otherwise you will undersell yourself and that is the other spectrum then you would not want to be in. Please don’t lie about your strengths because even if your lies go through and you get accepted it will come back at you as the time goes by.
Another important tip is to not be extremely professional because it will not allow you to make a connection with the interviewer. I am not advocating that one should not be professional at all, all I am saying is that one needs to find the balance in order to be able to connect with the interviewer on a more personal level. This will create positive emotions which will later on increase the chances of you being picked as the perfect candidate.
